Dr. Spencer Jefferies was raised in the Middle-East where he lived for many years before returning to the United States to complete his education. He is eager to bring his professional skill set to a global environment and to return to the Middle-East.
Dr. Jefferies is well-versed in various therapeutic modalities. He utilizes scientific research to provide the best-possible care. He favors a humanistic approach that considers the individual as a whole and works collaboratively with his clients to establish workable solutions to whatever challenges are present. He works from a transdiagnostic model, which allows for a greater emphasis on solution-focused work and allows for flexibility and client driven work. His empathetic and non-judgmental method contributes to a safe and warm environment. He is interested in the growing field of mindfulness research, and has been personally practicing mindfulness for five years. He interweaves mindfulness with numerous other techniques as the situation calls for.
Educational and Professional Background
Dr. Jefferies received his Doctorate of Psychology from the Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University in Pennsylvania. This highly rigorous program is the longest-running doctorate of psychology program in the United States. As an integrated program, educational and real-world training elements include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic framework, humanistic theories, and others. In addition, he has received his Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Widener University, and his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Jefferies completed the specialized concentration in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as part of his training. He has received his certification in Biofeedback through the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance.
Dr. Jefferies has experience working with various populations and presenting problems. He worked for a couple years at a school for children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities. He has experience working with military veterans and trauma, and worked for a couple years at a University Counseling Center helping young adults cope with varied complaints. His professional background includes work with numerous issues and different therapeutic techniques such that he is well-equipped to help those seeking services.
